CodeOp

Designing a programme around real outcomes

Redesigning a training programme around the downstream outcome it existed to produce: participants moving into relevant roles.

01

Problem and crux

I led about six Product Management cohorts at CodeOp, usually with ten participants. Early cohorts gave learners solid theory, but their goal was a career transition. The programme needed to build practical capability.

The crux was whether participants could apply the material well enough to enter relevant roles.

02

Assumptions to test

I expected realistic practice and specialist feedback to close the gap between understanding a concept and using it at work. Participant feedback provided an early signal, while subsequent job transitions provided the stronger outcome measure.

03

What I did

I shifted the curriculum toward applied cases. I recruited experienced practitioners in areas such as analytics and worked with them to convert their experience into exercises. Each cohort produced feedback that informed the next one.

04

Evidence and result

Roughly 80% of participants moved into relevant roles within two to six months. I later used a similar outcome focused approach in career transition training at Maestro.

05

Relevance to AI safety operations

Fellowships and field building programmes should be judged by the capabilities and actions they produce. I bring experience tracing a programme from activities to downstream outcomes and updating delivery when the evidence is weak.
